DIRECTIONS to MAYA SANCTUARY
Finding us is very easy. Below are screenshots of possible driving routes from Sydney, Canberra and Orange.
Important Access Update (Victoria Pass Closure)
Due to the closure of Victoria Pass, access routes from Sydney have changed.

-
Stay on the Great Western Highway all the way to Mount Victoria.
-
Do not follow GPS directions to exit at Blackheath.
At Mount Victoria:
-
Follow the detour onto Darling Causeway.
-
Turn left onto Hartley Vale Road (signed for local/residential access only).
Please note: Hartley Vale Road is a narrow, one-way country road and may not appear on GPS.

-
Follow Hartley Vale Rd into the valley
-
After Collits Inn, turn left onto Fields Rd → Browns Gap Rd
-
At Old Great Western Highway (Hartley), turn left
-
Cross the bridge onto Cox’s River Road (just before the Lolly Bug)
-
Continue to Kanimbla RFS Hut, then turn left onto Blackheath Creek Rd (signposted Maya Sanctuary)
-
Follow to the end (10–15 mins) to reach Maya Sanctuary
Alternative (easier driving):
If you prefer to avoid narrow roads, continue along the detour to Lithgow, then return via the highway to Hartley and follow directions from Cox’s River Road.
Driving time: aprox: 2.5-3 hours
We recommend stopping in Katoomba or Lithgow for a final shop, depending on which route you take.

Please drive carefully!
Take it slow on the country roads, especially around dawn/dusk, when the animals come out.
